FAQs about seeing a sex therapist
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
There are a few things people often wonder before starting sex therapy. Here are my answers to the questions I hear most from my clients, so you can feel at peace before taking that first step.
-
There's no single sign. People reach out for all kinds of reasons: a change in desire, pain or discomfort during sex, communication struggles with a partner, or simply wanting to feel more at ease in your body. If sex or intimacy is causing you stress, confusion, or distance in your relationship, that's reason enough to reach out.
-
Our first session focuses on understanding what brought you here, your history, and your goals. From there, sessions use evidence-based techniques tailored to you, often closing with a short mindfulness practice. There's no judgement and nothing is obligatory — we move at your pace.
-
I can help you with a wide range of sex and relationship concerns, including sexual disorders, desire and arousal difficulties, pain during sex, communication and conflict, pre/post-natal wellbeing, polyamorous relationships, and the sexual impact of major life changes, among others.
-
All sessions are held over secure video call, so you can join from wherever you're comfortable. Sessions run 60 minutes for individuals and 75 minutes for couples, typically weekly or biweekly at the start, moving to monthly as you build momentum and need less frequent support.
-
Completely. Everything discussed in session is confidential, in line with the ethical guidelines of the Syndicat National des Sexologues Cliniciens in France.
-
No, sessions never involve any sexual activity. We talk, we work through exercises and techniques together, and any sexual practice I suggest you try happens privately in your own time and space.
-
Not at all. I work with individuals and couples. If you're in a relationship, I may suggest your partner join for some sessions, but that's never required.
-
It varies. Some clients see meaningful change in a few weeks, others work with me for up to a year. We check in on progress every 3-4 sessions and adjust the plan together so that you feel improvements as quickly as possible.
